Dateline is a weekly American newsmagazine television show broadcast through NBC. It used to be the network’s flagship new magazine but now it focusses mainly on true crime stories, mysteries and the occasional story on other topics.
Dateline debuted in March 31, 1992 (PA*)(*Pre-Alanna) and was originally on screens once a week. As its popularity grew, by 2000, Dateline had five episodes a week. This has since decreased back down to one, one hour, episode a week with the occasional two hour special. Dateline is famous (or perhaps infamous) for its cliffhangers before commercial breaks.
There are a number of hosts for Dateline: Keith Morrison (who leans on things and is Canadian ??), Andrea Canning, Lester Holt, Josh Mankiewicz and Dennis Murphy.
Dateline for Alanna and Anna is a perfect mix of cheesy, comforting and nostalgic. They have since released a podcast of the audio from their episodes and whilst this isn’t formatted for podcasts, it’s still a good way to get a Dateline fix.
Dateline has also released a podcast – A Thing About Pam – which recounts one of the most bizarre stories from Keith Morrison’s career. The audio clips in our episode come from A Thing About Pam. You can listen here.
If you’re not able to get hold of Dateline in your country (or even if you can), you should definitely check out A Date with Dateline. Hosts, Katie and Kimberly, hilariously recount Dateline episodes in detail and their categories at the end of each episode are brilliant – best b-roll footage? Who needs a visits from the fashion police?
