This week we discuss holidays (self indulgent holiday snaps at the bottom), Korean serial killers, Mindhunter, 88 Days: The Jayme Closs Story and radioactive rattlesnakes.
Mindhunter
Following on from the success of season one, we are back with FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench, and psychologist Dr Wendy Carr as they attempt to assist with solving the real life case of Wayne Williams. Williams was charged with the murders of two adults but is believed to be responsible for the murders of 28 children and adolescents between 1979 and 1981.
As well as a large portion of this series focusing the Atlanta murders, the rest of the unit continue with their interviews of serial killers as season one introduced the beginning of a Behavioural Sciences Unit of the FBI. This season, we meet David Berkowitz (more well known as the Son of Sam/.44 Calibre Killer), William Junior Pierce, William Hance, Elmer Wayne Henley Jr. and Charles Manson. We all agreed the casting for each of these characters was just as perfect as Cameron Britton’s portrayal of Ed Kemper in season one. The confirmation of the identity of the mysterious man ADT man in season one as BTK kept us all entertained and we hope hint at further seasons.
88 Days: The Jayme Closs story
Just under one year on from the shocking murders of James and Denise Closs and the remarkable escape of their kidnapped daughter, Jayme, KARE11 bring us a podcast. Detailing that terrible night, the long 88 days a family and community suffered not knowing the whereabouts of a 13 year old girl, her miraculous escape, justice being brought down on the perpetrator and giving a conclusion to a harrowing story.
KARE11 had a unique viewpoint on this story due to their close relationship with the family and community. Once their coverage had concluded on their broadcasts, their star reporter, Lou Raguse, noted they had a lot more content that didn’t make the original cut and produced an eight part podcast.
